Why This Spreads So Easily Along a Golf Course Border

Sandspur, also called sandbur, thrives in the sandy, well-drained soil that covers most of the Grand Strand. Its burs carry sharp spines built to hitch a ride on anything that brushes past them, mower decks included, and once a few land in a new section of lawn, they root quickly and start the cycle again. A pre-emergent treatment timed to spring, before the plant germinates, does more long-term good than repeatedly cleaning a mower after the fact.
